How To Look Like A Model:Steal These Fierce Runway Beauty Looks

Fashion Week may have come to a close in NYC, but we’ve picked the most outrageously awesome looks that left us downright giddy. Fall is going to be one major beauty trend after another. Find our fearless favorites here:
Betsey Johnson- The Biggest Pigtails We’ve Ever Seen
The inspiration: Johnson's beauty look was inspired by the sexy, superstar actresses in the cowgirl "French" western film, Las Petroleras (1971), so lead stylist Thomas Dunkin from the Sebastian Professional Stylist Design Team shared his tips for making the girls cowgirl sexy in pigtails:
1. Mist a volumizer through damp hair (he used Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray, $20), blow dry and set it with medium and large-sized Velcro rollers for height and body.
2. Once the hair has cooled, remove the rollers and lightly cover hair with hairspray (like Shaper Zero Gravity, $16) to create added texture and separation.
3. Create cowgirl flair by separating hair into two loose, tousled pigtails and decorate them with torn fabric or thin leather ties.

Derek Lam- Bold Blue Lids
The inspiration: Came from the fabrics that inspired Lam’s Fall collection––bold and muted tones mixed with earthy pigments including terracotta, greens and browns, so Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux thought the makeup shades should be complementary. He went with a blend of bold blue shadows on the eyes that we just can’t get over.
Get your own bodacious blue eyes with these tips:
1. Smudge Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Midnight Blue, $19, over eye area.
2. Apply Double Wear Stay-in-Place ShadowCreme in Blue Velvet, $17.50, over your lids and blend from lashline to crease. Highlight under your brow with a light shade like Ivory Lace, $17.50, and then buff it out with a shadow brush to soften.
3. Finish with TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara in Black, $32 on your upper lashes.

Max Azria- Orange-Tastic Pucker
The inspiration: A “Purely Provocative” look with a natural complexion and a bold, orange lip color created specially for the show by Maybelline New York makeup artist Charlotte Willer.
This coral shade won’t debut until the fall so until then, here are Willer’s tips to nailing this look:
1. Grab Coral Crush Color Sensational Lipstick, $7.49 by Maybelline and mix with lip balm, then dab onto lips with your fingertips.
2. Finish by adding a little more color to the center of your lip only (apply straight from the tube for a more concentrated hue)

Why Do We Eat Fast Food and How Can We Avoid It?

We all know it's bad for us. We hear the endless references to it when experts tell us what NOT to eat. We know it's one of the leading causes of obesity, heart disease and high cholesterol. So why exactly do we continue to eat fast food even when we know it's terrible for us? Here are a few quick tips for overcoming our fast food addiction.
1. Fast Food is FAST Food
Well yeah, that's kind of implied in the name right? The pace of life has never been faster, with most of us on the go with our jobs and our kids, and we feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day to take the time to make a good home cooked meal.
While it's true that there isn't enough time to make a huge, thanksgiving style, feast every day but not all home cooked meals force us to slave over a hot stove for hours. The key to having time to make dinner is planning. Make a schedule of meals for the week, go to the store and buy everything you need. When you have everything you need in front of you, meals don't take nearly as long.
2. Fast Food Is Cheaper
This is more of a lunchtime problem, but if you're low on cash the fast food chains offer dozens of quick, cheap meals, but you pay for it with high cholesterol and loads of sugar. For example, the McDonalds dollar menu (in my area) offers a double cheeseburger, a McChicken sandwich (fried), Chicken McNuggets or two apple pies for $1 each. None of those items have less than 12 grams of fat!
The perception here is that a decent meal costs way more to make, but does it really? Perhaps it is, but it isn't cheaper by much. A turkey sandwich and a bag of low salt pretzels is a much smarter choice and can be had for less than $2.50 a day. The fast food dollar menu may be slightly cheaper but your health is worth more than an extra few cents isn't it?
3. It's Hard To Eat Healthy On The Road
Whether traveling for work or for pleasure, we just don't eat right on the road. People tend to eat at restaurants they recognize and the fast food chains that you see on every other street corner are often the first stop. On top of that, without a kitchen it's hard to prepare a good meal. I'll admit, this one is tough to overcome, but it's not impossible.
I always tend to eat poorly while I'm traveling, but I have found that packing healthier snacks like low salt pretzels, apple slices, oranges or granola bars keeps me from crashing the fast food windows as often, and I don't feel like a ball of flub after I eat them. If you are traveling for more than a few days, inquire about the availability of a refrigerator in the hotel room and find a local grocery store. If you are forced to eat out, avoiding fried foods and mayonnaise when possible can make a world of difference.
4. Fast Food Tastes Better
This one is a total misconception. Fast food chains entice us with whatever they can to get us to buy their products, but with all the money spent on commercials and pictures of a delicious looking food, does it ever really taste that good? Personally, I am almost always disappointed with the quality and feel like I have a brick in my stomach when I'm finished eating it.
If fast food tastes better than your home cooked meals, it's time to get more adventurous with your food. Try some new recipes or add new spices to your meals, and try not to make the same thing too often. Being repetitive with your meals will become boring fast and force you right back in to the rut of eating bad food.

TopShop Pulls “Too-Thin” Model Images—So How Thin Is Too Thin?

It’s the age-old debate of the modeling industry…how thin is too thin? TopShop seemingly went too far with images on their website of model Codie Young, which had received a ton of negative criticism from anti-eating disorder groups in the U.K. as well as numerous complaints from viewers. Last night, the British retailer finally pulled the images of the size-zero model. While TopShop insisted that the model is in fact healthy, they released a statement saying “Topshop is proud of its heritage of celebrating individual-looking girls who offer an alternative more unusual beauty, however we take your comments very seriously. As you may have noticed we have taken down that specific image at the earliest opportunity.”
Young then took to her website to dispute rumors of anorexia and fight back against the claims. Helen Davies of the U.K.-based anorexia charity told the Daily Mail: “For girls to see pictures of models who are this thin suggests that it’s OK to be like that but it’s clearly not. Topshop needs to take some responsibility and use healthy models.” We have to agree with this statement, and while this certainly isn’t the first scary-skinny model controversy, we’re sure that it wont be the last.

Photo: Splash
Recent controversies have included Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel (above, center), who made a bony appearance in a bikini which shocked the world. Super-slim Alexa Chung has also had to deny various criticisms of her extremely thin frame, which she claims is natural. Of course who can forget the tragic death of French model Isabelle Caro who died last year at just 28, after years of battling with anorexia.

Photo: Splash
Urban Outfitters had a similar controversy to TopShop, in which they pulled a pro-anorexia shirt from their website which said “Eat Less” on the front (worn by a girl who seemed to believe in this negative slogan). Although it’s been taken down from their online site, unfortunately you can still dig it up in stores.

Photo: Courtesy of Urban Outfitters
Supermodel Bar Refaeli who promotes an image of beauty and health took to her Twitter to say: “I get so sad when I see 15-year-old pale extremely skinny models at the agency looking all shaky and hungry … when will it end?!?!?” We agree 100% with this bold statement as well.

Photo: Splash
We have to admit that we’re Team-TopShop when it comes to this controversy: we think they did the right thing by pulling images of a hungry-looking model and should be setting a good example of promoting a healthy body image by showing more “normal” looking girls.

10 Ways to Wear Pink Next Spring

Spring 2012 Fashion Week is in full swing here in New York, and we’re ogling over all the flowy, romantic, I’m-so-glad-I-was-born-a-girl looks that the upcoming season has to offer. For spring, designers are garnering a truly womanly vision: we’re seeing less androgyny and architectural/geometric lines and more of the feminine flavor that makes dressing up so much fun. And what better way to begin than paying tribute to one of the prettiest shades on the spectrum: pink.
Below, check out 10 ways to wear pink next season as inspired by the shows so far at NYFW.
DKNY
As outwear: There’s no better way to shed the winter blues in the springtime than with a burst of color. As the snow melts, say goodbye to your black pea coat and sport a lightweight jacket in pink. You’ll feel invincible.
Tommy Hilfiger
At your internship or for a class presentation: Go legally blonde at school or the office but with a more (appropriately) subdued shade. Try a classic shirtdress in dusty rose or a creamy pale pink.
Adam
Head to toe: If you look at this runway image and think, “I could totally rock that,” then more (girl) power to you! If you’re ever brave/confident enough to pull off this look, make sure you break up all that pink with contrasting accessories, like this belt. Also, opt for pink denim or at least two different shades if you can.
Cushnie Et Ochs
Like Barbie: This body-hugging cocktail dress was made for the ultimate girly girl. I mean, check out those pink pumps! Seriously, unless this looks like one of your personal wardrobe staples, leave this look to the pros. And pros, keep your hair down and voluminous, your nails manicured, and your makeup natural to play up the femme factor.
Ruffian
With red: To give off less of a Valentine’s Day vibe, tone down one of the two colors. Mix pale pink—almost a beige, even—with a striking red to pop.
Peter Som
With powder blue: Same principle here: go for a fuchsia or even a hot pink to contrast the lightness of the baby blue, and you’ve got an unforgettable outfit on your hands.
Christian Siriano
With lime green: Now here’s a duo you probably didn’t see coming. A touch of an electric green next to a delicate shade of pink shows off the playful side of style. Go on, go for the quirky with this one!
Jill Stuart
With texture: For a more two-dimensional statement, find pink pieces in fabrics like silk and tie tunics at the waist for a sophisticated look.
Jen Kao
With a crazy print: And of course, pink makes the perfect accent in a whimsical print. Have fun with graphic print dresses, tops, and bottoms! Don’t forget to mix and match those prints.

SS 2012 Beauty Trend: Pony Up

Invest in a Chi now if you haven’t yet: according to the runways, you’ll be spending a lot of quality time with your straightener. One of the biggest hair trends coming out of New York is sleek, flat-ironed hair—even on ponytails. So if you’re one to keep up with the latest looks, you can forget any association the pony’s held with slept-through-the-alarm, didn’t-have-time-to-do-my-hair convenience. But for all the extra work, at least no one can call you lazy.
For each of these ponies, use a smoothing cream or serum to make your hair easier to work and style, and don’t forget a spritz of hair spray before you head out!
Marchesa
The  Style: Fishtail Pony. Feminine, romantic, delicate but strong.
The Brains Behind it: Renato Campora for Fekkai
Wear This If: You’re going on a date, to a wedding, or celebrating any kind of special occasion
The Steps:
1. Blow dry and straighten (helps to use a thickening or volume mousse).
2. Create a deep side part; set aside an inch or so of the front section.
3. Grab the rest of the hair a ponytail at the nape of your neck.; wrap the loose section around the elastic and pin it in place.
4. Separate the ponytail into two sections; fishtail braid by taking a small piece from one section and crossing it over to the other, repeating several times until you achieve the desired look.
Tommy Hilfiger
The Style: ’60s Middle Part Pony. Classic, understated but striking, professional.
The Brains Behind It: Eugene Souleiman for Wella
Wear This If: You’ve got an internship, interview, or any appointment where you want to look put-together.
The Steps:
1. Use a fine-toothed comb to create a center part. Brush and flat-iron.
2. Tie in a low ponytail.
Reed Krakoff
The Style: Boho Pony. Earthy, hip but casual, flirty.
The Brains Behind It: Guido for Redken
Where This If: You’re just hanging out with friends.
The Steps:
1. No need to brush or straighten for this one! It’s all about looking natural, so gather your hair into a low ponytail, secure, and add a leather tie.
2. Pull out some strands from the side and tuck behind your ears. The piece-ier, the better!
Monique Lhuillier
The Style: Sleek, Teased Pony. Sporty, sassy, dramatic.
The Brains Behind It: Odile Gilbert for Kerastase
Wear This If: You’re a self-proclaimed diva.
The Steps:
1. Blow dry and straighten.
2. Work a smoothing cream or serum into your hair, pull back into a high ponytail and secure.
3. Tease the pony with a fine-toothed comb (using a product in the previous step will help keep your pony from looking frizzy).
Herve Leger by Max Azria
The Style: Sectioned Pony. Architectural, structured, graphic.
The Brains Behind It: Neil Moodie for Bumble and bumble
Wear This If: You’re playing a sport, or if you’re just a neat freak
The Steps:
1. Gather a section of hair starting from the top of your ears and secure.
2. Gather another section starting from below your ears and secure along with the first ponytail you made.
3. At the nape your neck, tie the rest of your hair together with the pony from the middle section.
Derek Lam
The Style: Classic Side-Part Pony. Smart, sexy, confident.
The Brains Behind It: Orlando Pita for Phyto
Wear This If: You’re going out but not necessarily dressing to the nines.
The Steps:
1. Create a small side part (should extend back just a few inches); flat-iron hair.
2. Work a wax-based product into hair and pull back tightly into a ponytail in line with your ears. Straighten the pony for an even sleeker look if desired.

What You Do When You Cant Sleep ?

Can't sleep? Nearly everybody's had a hard time falling asleep at least once, but 10 percent of the general population suffers insomnia regularly. Not only do they have a hard time falling asleep, but they awaken several times during the night and feel fatigued the next day.
The older you are, the more elusive the sleep gods can be. At least 25 percent of the elderly can't get a good night's snooze. When the sleep mask, aromatherapy and the white noise machine have failed, you don't have to pop a pill. Try these expert-recommended tips and you may find yourself snoozing soundly.
Eat, drink and be... awake
Avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. A glass of wine with dinner won’t do any harm, but a couple of nightcaps can disrupt the quality of your sleep once you've metabolized the alcohol, causing you to wake up halfway through the night.
Nicotine pumps up your blood pressure, making it difficult to relax.
Say no to caffeine anytime later than mid-afternoon. Caffeine is a stimulant that can last in your body for five to eight hours. Some people can still feel the effects up to 12 hours later. It's not just the cuppa joe that can keep you awake — energy drinks, tea, chocolate and colas have caffeine.
Food can affect your slumber, so don’t eat a heavy meal too close to bedtime. If you're sensitive to tomato products or spicy food, lying down can aggravate heartburn, which can make falling asleep more difficult or wake you up in the middle-of-the-night.
Back to the womb
Stages of sleepMake sure your bedroom is comfortable, dark and quiet. Finding the right temperature is important. Many people tend to be more comfortable in a cooler bedroom because our body thermostats drop to their lowest levels during the night, experts say. When it's too hot or humid, people tend to awaken more frequently or get stuck in the light sleep stage.

If muggy nights keep you awake, consider a dehumidifier or an air conditioner. If you like it hot, while your partner prefers it cool, you can always try wearing warmer pajamas or keeping an extra blanket for yourself.

Don't bring your laptop to bed Use the bed only for sleep and sex. If there's a TV in your bedroom, don't watch it in bed. Don't use your bed for work. Dragging your wireless laptop there brings with it all the stress and interruptions that come with it.
Worry time
Schedule some "worry time" during the day. Stress is a big reason people can't sleep at night, but if you give yourself just 15 minutes to address the source of your problems, you take the pressure off when you finally get into bed at night. Eliminate the conditioned anxiety that comes with trying to sleep by reassuring yourself that you will sleep or distracting yourself.
If you're still anxious when you lie down, don't lie there obsessing about your inability to sleep. The harder you try, the more you'll become frustrated. If you're not asleep after five or 10 minutes, get out of bed. Going to another room may help ease anxiety about not falling asleep.

Make a routine
Go to bed at the same time every night. Practice nightime relaxation routines, such as muscle relaxation or meditation.
Save the Zzzs Skip the nap. A 15-minute power nap can refresh you during the day, but any longer than that and you could find yourself struggling for slumber later.
Work out
Regular exercise is helpful against insomnia, but not within three hours of bedtime. Exercise is energizing and raises your body temperature. Try to arrange your workout either in the morning or late afternoon

Men Fashion Tips : 7 Essentials When Buy Men Dress Shirts

Are you looking for brand new dress shirt to fill up your wardrobe? Being for your formal office attire or smart casual outing. You got to know what are the basic rules. Firstly, you need to know is your size, we wouldn't be surprise that most of you are not sure about your size. Yes. Most of men dress shirt sizes have two numbers: neck size, and sleeve length.

Choose the comfortable and well-fitting one, so make sure you've measured yourself to get an exact fit.
So let us go through these 7 simple tips to consider while buying a dress shirt:

1. Consider which style you want: Athletic, also called slim fitted, regular or full. Regular is a little looser than the athletic fit and full is the loosest of all dress shirts fits. All these have different fitting and should be chosen as per person's own stature and physique.

2. Stripes, Solids or Prints: If you are confused with so many options available in the color of mens shirt, go with a color or pattern that is trendy. Before you start buying every color of dress shirt available, it is better to take idea from others around you to distinguish what would be suitable. Try to avoid brightly color shirts if everyone is donning for white, blue or black dress shirts.

3. Material: Beside cotton or polyester, you may want to consider wrinkle free fabrics. Being wrinkle free definitely does not mean that these shirts do not get wrinkles at all. It just means that you can achieve the fresh and up to date look for a longer period.

4. Collars Straight-point: The most familiar and trendy style is the V-shaped points of a straight-point collar and they look great on any wearer.

5. Button-down: Not as much formal as other dressing shirt collars, the button-down collar is usually tailored of a softer fabric and pressed with less starch.

6. Cuffs Barrel: There are barrel cuffs, also known as a button cuff, as they close with at least one button, and possibly more than one. If there are several buttons, these can be used to adjust the fit. Other is French or double cuffs that have fabric that is long and folds back. These are closed with a cufflink or silk knot. Many people prefer French cuffs as they are more formal than a barrel cuff. And other is convertible that can be closed with buttons or cufflinks.

7. Pockets Placement: Check out where pockets are placed. If you are looking for more formal shirts, then do not consider mens shirts with two chest pockets. A single chest pocket gives more formal look and the most common for official wear.
Lastly, in addition to style, material and color, you should pay attention to details. Most of us consider the color and overlook at the big picture. Most of the time, it's the details that define its style as well. Make sure you appropriately check the style of the collar, cuffs and pocket of a dress shirt before you purchase it. You'll most likely find that there are shirt details you prefer over others.
