Nick Sullivan's 10-Point Plan to Owning Fall Style

Ah, there's nothing more reassuring and uplifting to the fully-fledged, clothes-conscious male than the first real days of Spring. Except maybe the first real days of Autumn — which are infinitely more promising.
If you're into men's clothes, there is a palpable excitement at the prospect of slowly dropping temperatures and the sudden flurry of sartorial activity that comes with it, liberating the tweeds from their summer slumbers, brushing out the moleskins, polishing the monkstraps.
But it is also about adding new items to the wardrobe to update the look. With that in mind, here's my ideal/dream investment plan for a well-dressed fall 2011.
1. Unlined wool jackets. Preferably DB, tight, and tweedy from LBM1911, Piombo, or Boglioli.
2. A sapphire-blue, DB velvet jacket from Paul Smith.
3. Autumnal colors from Dockers superlative range of SF Tapered fits, or the new Alpha cut. Aubergine, wine, navy, grey.
4. Narrow worsted flannel pants in light gray from Incotex.
5. Gloves, scarves, and knits from Savile Row's E. Tautz (now at Barneys).
6. Wool tweed ties for that crunchy Duke of Windsor look from Pierrepont Hicks.
7. A DB coat in camel from Hickey Freeman.
8. Plus a few key pieces from AMI by Alexandre Mattiussi's debut line at Barneys.
9. Shoes: Double monks from O'Keefe, deep green brogues from Church.
10. Something, anything really, from Isaia's Duke of Windsortastic fall collection.
